Netizens have shared comments of concern regarding Kathy Bates’ 2024 Emmys appearance. The online comments come after the star shared revelations about her health in past and recent interviews.

Shining like the star she is, Hollywood icon Kathy Bates looked radiant in the dark-colored sequin dress she wore to the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles on September 15. In addition to the eye-catching gown she wore, which was covered in striking beads woven into the fabric, the “Fried Green Tomatoes” star donned black-patterned closed-toe shoes and carried a stylish black purse with floral details on it.

She accessorized with light jewelry, which included dangling earrings and a stunning gemstone ring on her right hand. Bates styled her salt-and-pepper-colored locks framed away from her face and fashioned her hair into what looked to be a low-hung bun.

At some point, while Bates was posing for the flashing cameras on the carpet, she was joined by fellow co-star Skye P. Marshall, who features alongside Bates in an upcoming reboot of “Matlock.”

Upon seeing online photos of Bates at this year’s TV awards event, which was hosted by famous father and son Eugene and Dan Levy, social media users were taken aback by how different she looks after losing weight.

A few days before the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards took place, Bates, who, according to sources, was also one of the presenters at the event, shared candid reflections about her life and career in an interview with Variety.

Aside from discussing the “Matlock” reboot and her retirement, which she has reportedly reneged on, Bates divulged some details about her weight and health journey.

The talented actress, who is playing the lead for the first time in six years with her new role in “Matlock,” spoke about how losing weight has been extremely beneficial for her, especially when it comes to her craft.

“It’s helped me tremendously that, over the last six or seven years, I’ve lost 100 pounds. I don’t think I’ve been this slim since I was in college,” revealed the “American Horror Story” actress.

Bates was at her heaviest in 2011 when she starred in NBC’s “Harry’s Law.” Reflecting on that time, she shared, “I had to sit down every moment that I could. It was hard for me to walk. I’m ashamed I let myself get so out of shape.”

However, like a phoenix rising from the ashes, Bates was able to get into better shape. She added, “[But] now I have a tremendous amount of energy.”

Years before her 2024 Variety interview, Bates spoke with Extra to discuss her then-60-pound weight loss in 2019. At the time, the then-70-year-old asserted, “This is the best health I’ve been in in years and I’m so grateful — it’s a miracle.”

Bates then disclosed, “Well, I was facing diabetes — it runs in my family — and I really didn’t want to live with that.”

Using a tip she had learned from her niece about listening to the communication between one’s brain and stomach when eating, Bates mentioned, “After you eat for 20-30 minutes, you experience an involuntary sigh […] what I discovered is if you listen to that sigh and push that plate away for just five minutes, you realize you’re satisfied.”

Further along in the discussion, Bates also spoke about how her weight loss had helped ease her lymphedema symptoms. In addition to her lymphedema, Bates was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2003 and then breast cancer.

Speaking on her illnesses, Bates confirmed, “I had a double mastectomy seven years ago… and I developed a disease called lymphedema after that.”

Far from allowing her ailments to hold her back, according to the Extra interview, Kathy Bates became the national spokesperson for the Lymphatic Education & Research Network (LE&RN) to raise funds for the cause and use her personal story to help others.
